Note: This home closed for $4.8 M on March 5, 2012. It was listed at $9.995 M the last 2 years. The individual that built it had over $11.0M into the property, $4.0+M of his own money and had a $7.0M note. The home was not completely finished and required just under $1.0M to finish. So it roughly went for 50% ($4.8 to purchase and $1.0 to finish) with $12 M being the total build cost. Truly a good value.

I grew up in the Las Brisas community and Leona Helmsley was our neighbor. I never saw her. I recall several attempts to go to her house during halloween to trick or treat. She had a gate within the gated community where you'd have to call to be let up her long driveway. Someone else would answer the call and tell us to go away. Queen of mean let her staff live by her reputation. Still it's a cute memory. Disgruntled neighbors, infamous or not, make life entertaining.

This sounds like a great time to buy in the area. More than likely it will take years to develop the resort but as you said, when it opens, home owners will see an increase in their property values.

This is really great to hear. As I said in my last post on your Blog I spent a weekend in Arizona at the Camelback Inn. The scenery was amazing and I sure would hate to see it interrupted by cell towers.

Now that I think of it I was there in AZ right around the time when that religious leader had several people die of heat exhaustion in the tent in Sedona.

A few years ago I spent an extended weekend at the Camelback Inn. What an amazing experience. I'm from Florida so I know all about the hot weather. No complaints there. But I was in awe of the beauty of Arizona, Camelback Mountain and especially Sedona! I can see myself living there.

One of the guys that came with me on the trip suggested we go for a hike up Camelback Mountain. We had a great time up until I almost stepped on a Western Diamondback Rattlesnake. He was coiled up under a rock that my friend had just hopped over. As my foot left the ground and I prepared to jump up and over the rock I looked down and saw him there. Scared me pretty bad, but the snake was simply staying warm on the rocks waiting for the sun to go down so he could venture out and hunt. I snapped a decent pic of the snake with my cell phone and then navigated around him.

Awesome experience!

Camelback Mountain is stunning – I can see why hikers flock to it. The parking situation is unfortunate, but the shuttle service seems to be a step in the right direction. As for a long term solution, I really couldn't say - maybe a paid parking site closer to the hill would alleviate some of the congestion in nearby residential areas?
